Pizzeria Mazzie
Opened in Bangkok in August 2018, Pizzeria Mazzie is Jon and Celina Spearman’s vision of a modern-day pizzeria inspired by the famous New York parlors of Jon’s youth, which also incorporates the experiences of 20 years of travel and life in Asia. Modern twists with unexpected flavors, together with a respect for the craft of pizza making are highlights of every visit to Mazzie.
Showing their respect for the traditions of pizza and baking, Jon uses a natural levain and traditional bread-making techniques to produce an exceptionally light dough, which is then baked using wood in a handmade imported Italian pizza oven.
With quality and excellence as the top priorities, Pizzeria Mazzie has been ranked in the Top 10 of the prestigious 50 Top Pizza Asia awards every year since 2020, as well as being awarded as the World’s 50Top pizzerias in Naples, Italy annually. Jon also has been recognized as one of the Worlds 100 top pizza makers by The Best Chef awards in 2023. Of the more than 279,000 registered pizzerias in the world, Mazzie ranked 52 in the World’s 50Top pizza awards.
Jon / Celina
Jon Spearman is a native of New York, and his wife Celina hails from a family of restaurateurs in Macau. After his first job learning to make pizza in 1986, Jon continued cooking in kitchens around New York while working his way through university. After a stint in high-tech manufacturing, Jon went back to cooking at Paley’s Place in Portland, Oregon with James Beard award-winning chef Vitaly Paley.
From there Jon landed a job at nearby Nike headquarters. That launched a long career as a footwear executive that took him throughout Asia, including many years based in Hong Kong and China.
In 2017 Jon and Celina moved their young family to Bangkok and opened a small and intimate restaurant serving exceptional pizza. It wasn’t long before Pizzeria Mazzie was recognized as one of Thailand’s — and Asia’s — best pizzerias. Currently Jon and Celina are based in Europe, where they’re working on expansion plans.
